About SMILE CITY

SMILE CITY is revolutionising urban infrastructure with circular economy solutions. Join us in creating a greener future for European cities.

As the European Union works towards the 2050 goals of climate neutrality and a circular economy, cities are at the heart of the transition. Urban areas are responsible for a large share of resource use, CO₂ emissions, and waste production – but they also hold great potential for systemic change.

Our Solution

SMILE CITY (Sustainable Materials for Innovative, Low Emissions applications in the Circular city) addresses this challenge by providing realistic circular systemic solutions that reduce carbon emissions while promoting cleaner, safer, and more sustainable urban mobility. The project demonstrates how materials considered waste – such as construction materials, end-of-life (EoL) tyres, and used electric vehicle batteries – can be given a second life in infrastructure that supports cycling, without decreasing the performance of final products.

Our Impact

In addition to its technical objectives, SMILE CITY contributes to Europe's broader goals of strategic autonomy and resource efficiency, by promoting less polluting recycling techniques and supporting circular value chains. Public engagement is also a key part of the project: through awareness-raising and communication activities, SMILE CITY aims to involve citizens, municipalities, and industry leaders in the shift toward a more circular and climate-friendly economy.
